BBFF2020
Special Edition
In 2020, COVID-19 restrictions meant we were unable to deliver the large-scale event BBFF is renowned for, only screening a fraction of the usual 150+ films.
Despite the impact of the pandemic, the festival still managed to celebrate the independent and creative spirit of filmmaking through the creation of a unique hybrid model with limited physical screenings and a selection of films shown online.
In 2019 the awards component was restructured, returning to the essence of film festivals by focusing nominations on those films without Australian distribution.
The 2020 Competition retained this structure, allowing us to inspire and support filmmakers whose work would have been screened if 2020 was a typical year.
