Outlapsed: A stunning aerial journey into the Outback

This mind-blowing montage of the Australian Outback is brought to life by the Byron Bay-based photographer and documentary filmmaker Evan Malcolm.Evan has taken his eye for the still image and used it to capture truly awe-inspiring moments in time, bringing life and character to the Australian landscape.Using a medley of aerial drone footage juxtaposed by low angled time-lapse, the camera work keeps the remote, often empty landscapes, alive. It takes the journey from the remnants of man-made objects and structures across vast sweeping landscapes to the natural giants of the Outback such as Uluru under a setting sun, where the shadows seem to pour down its flanks and out onto the desert floor.Malcolm’s footage allows us to see the way the land breathes and moves over wide spaces of time. The time-lapse footage of stars shooting over Uluru accompanied by the distinctive voice of the didgeridoo, soundtracked by award-winning sound designer Karl Kalbaugh, is a unique experience and a standout piece of cinematography."To be screened alongside the leading time-lapse film-makers in the world on an international stage is quite frankly, mind-blowing," said Malcolm after gaining a finalist spot in the Documentary/ Social Commentary category at the Timelapse Film Festival in California earlier this year. Both those who have travelled to Australia’s vast red centre and those who have yet to cross it off the bucket list will see something new as Malcolm's mesmerising work takes them on a whole new experience. – Tamara Roxanne and Avram Parkerff81665_outlapsed-mp4_snapshot_00-16_2016-09-24_14-52-11
